Berlin Energy Turnaround Act

It entered into force on 6 April 2016 and sets the framework for Berlin’s climate protection and energy policy. The legislation addresses mainly the public sector and requires the public administration to take a strong role model function. It stipulates a greener energy supply, more school education on climate protection and clean energy and greater efforts in adapting to the effects of climate change. Finally, the law calls upon the Berlin Senate to elaborate an overall concept involving the general public in order to achieve these binding climate protection targets: the Berlin energy and climate protection programme.
